I-PRAC attended the June Short Stay Meetup at The Fable in Holborn, London. This meetup was attended by 100+ property owners, managers and investors from across the world, and gave attendees an opportunity to hear the latest from the Short Term Accommodation Association (STAA) and receive an update on key news from the industry.

Short Stay Meetup 2019

Following the success of the inaugural Short Stay Show in March, the Short Stay Meetup was designed for owners, managers and investors – as well as influencers and specialists – to meet and discuss the latest from the short-term rental industry

The event was sponsored by some of the biggest names, including HomeAway, KeyCafe and TravelNest, and I-PRAC are proud to have also been a sponsor for the evening following our sponsorship of the Show in March.

Key Takeaways

The evening was full of updates, networking, nibbles, drinks and was a great success all round. We were also able to try our hand at some towel origami – perfect for those who are looking to step up their game when it comes to managing or hosting a property!

The event gave the team at I-PRAC a chance to meet and speak with a range of suppliers, prospects, friends and colleagues, as well as gain an interesting insight into what’s taking place in the industry.

Attendees were shown by organisers all of the growth and activity going on within the industry. This was reinforced further by STAA’s stat, which highlighted that £854 million was earned by households on Airbnb in 2018 alone, and over £3 billion was generated by hosts and guests renting those households.

An interesting update on the industry at local level also gave us a better understanding of the activity taking place in:

  • Manchester
  • Bath
  • London

Discussions were centralised around local governments introducing measures to track the number of nights sold by an individual or host, plus the enforcement of business rates on those who rent short-term solutions for more than 140 nights per year – which is a cost that hosts now must consider.
